What I Offer

  • Originally hailing from Union City, California, David embarked on his dance journey with his high school's show choir. It was at San Jose State University that he commenced his advanced dance training. During his time at SJSU, he received instruction in Limon from Gary Masters and delved into musical theater under Janie Scott in her musical theater company.

Subsequently, David transferred to the University of California, Irvine, where he earned his BFA in Dance Performance. His extensive training included Jazz, Ballet, and Modern dance, all under the tutelage of Sheron Wray, Loretta Livingston, Chad Michael Hall, Jodie Gates, and the renowned dance legend Donald McKayle. At UCI, David had the exceptional privilege of dancing in McKayle's company, where he learned and performed both historical and contemporary works.

David is also a graduate of New York University, where he earned his master's degree in dance education with a focus on Dances of the African diaspora receiving the award for “Outstanding Leadership in Dance Education: Social Justice”.

Beyond his academic pursuits, David's dance career extended to performances for Nickelodeon, theme parks, the American Ballet of Los Angeles, California Contemporary Ballet, Art4Life, JazzXchange, music videos, indie artists, and hip-hop companies. He even embarked on a tour in China, allowing him not only to dance internationally but also to showcase his choreographic talents.

In 2019, as the company director of the competitive dance group Rogue Makers, David achieved impressive results, securing 3rd place in the adult category and 2nd place in the mega crew category at Hip Hop International with Maker Empire. He has choreographed solos and group numbers for various platforms, including competition studios, public school programs, and dance companies such as Rogue Makers, Gotham Dance Theater, Evoke Dance Company, Gotham Dance Theater, and at Iona University. David's choreography has also been featured at venues like NYU, Sybarite, Club Jete, Inhale/Exhale, the Craft NYC, Radio City Music Hall, residency with Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance, a fellow in the NYU Production Lab’s Artist Development Program, and has recently premiered his immersive AAPI+ dance experience “Resonance” that explores the Asian/Asian American experience through contemporary and street dance at We Are Here Brooklyn to sold out audiences.

Presently, he serves as an adjunct at NYU Steinhardt teaching Hip Hop dance and culture, Queens College teaching Intro to dance, and a teaching artist in New York City, where he conducts his popular waacking workshop. David also contributed to the Billie Holiday Theatre's Education department within the Youth Arts Academy, wrote curriculum for the 92NY’s discover dance program, and arts administrator for Full Circle Souljahs under Kwikstep and Rokafella.

David looks forward to continuing his performance career as a dancer, and choreographer producing his own work and setting choreography on dancers as well as continuing his scholar on inclusive teaching practices through queer studies in the dance classroom and decentering eurocentrism in higher education BFA programs.
